Your protagonist steps off the Europe and tries his luck in the land of the dreams - USA, wishing to start his life from a new beggining and earn a fortune. Unfortunately the things went down quickly as he and his cousing got into debts, they moved into the world of criminals and suddenly they realized that the American dream is different in reality, because money and the reputation is the thing who gets you up or down in that society.
